The Kiwanis Youth Protection program is an effort to protect children from abuse. There are two main components:
All Kiwanis members who act as liaisons to Supported Leadership clubs (K-Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K and Aktion clubs) are required to have a criminal background performed by Kiwanis International. When club secretaries input a new Kiwanis advisor on the secretary dashboard, the advisor will receive an e-mail from Kiwanis International with instructions on how to proceed.
The background check must be repeated every two years. The checks also are required for any Kiwanis volunteers who act as chaperones for Supported Leadership events. The background check cost is $25.
Club advisors such as school teachers do not need to have a background check as they will receive that from their employer. The exception to that is if the serve as overnight chaperones for an event they need to have a Kiwanis background check.
All clubs, including those who do not sponsor any Supported Leadership programs, are required to conduct Youth Protection training each year. This can be provided by the division's Youth Protection chair:
